The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration yesterday held a meeting with officials from 10 Bangkok districts deemed at most risk of dengue fever (haemorrhagic fever) in a bid to come up with prevention measures.

The move came as the number of Bangkokians suffering from the disease rose to 25,282 – three of whom have died.

Its current prevalence ratio is 444 per 100,000 of the population.

Suan Luang, Watthana, Bang Phlat, Huai Khwang, Lat Phrao, Saphan Sung, Bang Kapi, Chatuchak, Wang Thong Lang and Prawet had the highest number of dengue haemorrhagic fever patients between January 4 and December 12.

BMA deputy permanent secretary Wanthanee Wattana, who presided over the meeting at City Hall, said the highly publicised hospital stay of TV star Thrisadee “Por” Sahawong boosted public awareness of the disease.

The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes.

Wanthanee urged officials and the public to destroy mosquito larva incubation areas.
